What to See
Flag Rock
Once a Portuguese bastion, Flag Rock lies at the southernmost end of the Fort. It is a popular place to catch a sunset and also jump in the water from the stones.
Marine Archeological Museum
This 17th?century spacious museum was a colossal old spice warehouse that was built by the Dutch. Though not in its original form, but it stands as a witness to the city’s maritime past.
National Maritime Museum
Situated inside the Galle Fort, the Museum is home to some dusty displays demonstrating old fishing techniques and examples of local boats.
Meeran Mosque
A mix of British Victorian and Islamic architecture, the fa?ade of this mosque looks more like a Portuguese Cathedral rather than a mosque.
Sudharmalaya Temple
The small whitewashed temple complex has a prayer hall and a large reclining Buddha. Here you will also find a mini stupa, which belongs to 1889 and is painted in blinding white. People visit here for regular Yoga classes.
Dutch Fort
A stunning blend of archeology, architecture and history; the massive fort in Galle was built in late 16th?century. Inside you will find a museum, beautiful villas, administrative offices, antique shops, cafes, bookstores and lifestyle stores.
Best Time to Visit
Summers from December to February sees a rise in mercury between 29 to 31 degree celsius. Spring time from February to April is the best time to visit Galle, especially for beach activities. Monsoons come here from May to September and it is the best time to get some good deals in the hotels. Though outdoor activities are not possible during this time.

By Air
Bandaranaike International airport is the only international airport in Sri Lanka, about 155 kilometres away from Galle. Countries like Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia, Middle East and United States are connected from here.
By Rail
Sri Lanka’s Coastal Railway Line connects Galle with rest of Sri Lanka. They connect the west and south coast of Sri Lanka.
By Bus
Bentota and Colombo is well connected with Galle and important cities like with a good network of buses.
